About the Tile Calculator
This Tile Calculator estimates how many tiles you need for a floor or wall project, along with grout and total material quantities. Enter your area and tile size, and the tool returns tile count, boxes required, and grout volume.
The calculator uses the standard tiling method: it multiplies surface length by width to get the area, divides that by the area of one tile, then adds a waste allowance for cuts and breakage. Grout volume comes from tile dimensions, joint width, and tile depth. You supply the surface measurements, tile size, grout joint width, and a waste percentage. Most installers add 10 to 15 percent extra; use 15 percent for diagonal or complex patterns.
- Measure the length and width of your floor or wall and enter the values.
- Enter the tile dimensions and your preferred grout joint width.
- Set the waste percentage and read the tile count, boxes, and grout needed.
