About the Bandwidth Calculator
The Bandwidth Calculator estimates the network capacity you need for a given workload. Enter your data volume, transfer time, or number of users, and the tool returns the required speed in Mbps along with the expected transfer duration.
The calculation follows the basic relation bandwidth equals data size divided by transfer time. For multi-user planning, it multiplies the number of simultaneous users by each user's average demand and adds a margin for overhead. You provide the data size, the transfer window, and the number of concurrent users. Convert Mbps to MB/s carefully, since one byte holds eight bits and mixing the units overstates your speed by a factor of eight.
- Enter your total data volume or the number of concurrent users.
- Add your target transfer time or each user's typical demand.
- Read the required bandwidth and adjust for peak-hour overhead.
