About the Fuel Cost Calculator
The Fuel Cost Calculator computes the total fuel expense for any trip. Enter your distance, fuel efficiency, and fuel price, and you get the estimated cost plus the amount of fuel your vehicle will burn.
The calculation follows the standard fuel cost formula: Fuel Cost = (Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency) × Fuel Price. You need three inputs: trip distance, your vehicle's fuel efficiency in MPG or L/100 km, and the current price of fuel per gallon or liter. The calculator also shows fuel volume used, which helps with planning stops on long routes. For better accuracy, base your efficiency figure on recent fill-ups rather than the manufacturer rating, since real-world driving often differs.
- Enter the total trip distance in miles or kilometers.
- Type your vehicle's fuel efficiency and the current fuel price.
- Read the estimated fuel cost and fuel volume in the results.
