About the Gravel Calculator
This gravel calculator estimates how much gravel a project requires. Enter your area dimensions and depth, and it returns the volume in cubic yards or cubic meters along with the weight in tons or tonnes.
The tool works from the basic volume formula for a rectangular prism, length times width times depth, then multiplies that volume by the density of the chosen material. It asks for the length and width of the area, the desired depth, and the gravel type, such as pea gravel, crushed stone, or sand. Density values differ by material, so pick the option that matches your order. Because gravel settles under traffic and weather, add 5 to 10 percent extra to cover compaction and uneven ground.
